Clements in Maryland

On this page I will begin to list the Clements families of Colonial Maryland. Some became quite large even from small beginnings of one.

Charles County, Maryland

John Clements

John Clements, born 1647, a tailor by trade, arrived from Clopton, Middlesex County, England as early as 1675, settled and set up business for himself in Charles County, Maryland. He was an educated man of Roman Catholic origins. He probably married Elizabeth Plunkett. They had at least six sons and unknown daughters: Edward, John, William, Jacob, Joseph, and Samuel. The family grew very large in Charles County, Maryland for the next 100 years and some of the grandsons or great-grandsons, along with others, began to migrate to Kentucky and beyond after the Revolution.

Thomas, John, and Jacob Clements

About the same time as John in Charles County was beginning his family, there was found on the Eastern Shore of Maryland three families with the heads named: Thomas, John, and Jacob Clements.
